A Mother’s Heart in Ministry
In Gospel Light Christian Church this year it seems like a baby boom year. We have many of our members who are pregnant with child and who are about to deliver. We wonder why? Maybe it’s the governmental pressures or encouragement for more babies in our land. Maybe it’s the dragon year, the lunar calendar year which to many people it ‘s auspicious. I do not know why.
But we must thank God for every child He’s given. Thank God for the heritage from Him. And you know babies are so sweet. They are so small and so delicate. And they need a lot of tender loving care, a lot of gentleness, a lot of effort and patience to feed and to attend to all their needs. It takes great responsiveness to wake up and to drop all that you’re doing to attend to them whenever they cry.
Paul says he’s like that. He’s like a mother! And loves and cares for the church. Sure, Paul is a great apostle with great authority, but Paul didn’t choose to lord over people, to use them or to abuse them. But he speaks the truth in love, cherishing them.
Reminds us today that not only is it important that our message will be right, but our manner and our motivation must be right. Our manner must be gentle like that of a mother and our motivation must be like that of a mum, a mother loving her child. We must be patient. We must be willing to give time. We must not be discouraged when the child is really not growing as fast as we want to, but to just keep feeding them.
It is inconvenient sometimes. But that’s what it takes to be a mother. And that’s what it takes to be a leader. That’s what it takes to be a disciple-maker. That’s what it takes to be a shepherd. So may God give you a Mother’s heart today to cherish the people that God has placed in your life. God bless!
