Leading with your Life
What is Discipleship? Discipleship is helping others follow Christ. Discipleship is helping others follow Christ. Paul says in 1st Thessalonians 1 and verse 5, the last part he says, “ You know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.” And verse 6: “ And you became followers of us, and of the Lord. ”
A disciple is someone who follows Jesus Christ and a discipler is someone who helps another follow Jesus Christ.
A discipler is therefore helping others follow Jesus. That’s what discipleship is all about. But how is he to help others follow Jesus? How? I see that he needs to help others primarily with his life.
In verse 5, Paul says, “you know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.” Oh sure he gave them the gospel. That’s given to us in the earlier verses and also in here in verse 5 how the gospel came not unto you in word only. So the gospel must be given and we must lead others with our words. But don’t forget to lead them with our lives, with our walk. You lead others to Christ with your word and your walk or your lips and your life.
Paul says, “I live among you. You saw my life. You saw how…how I lead others to Christ, how I live my life with Jesus. And now therefore I can help you follow my Saviour.”
My Friends, authentic discipleship is first personal transformation before multiplication. Discipleship is therefore not about administration. It’s not just about organizing. It is deeply spiritual. It is deeply personal. It is when I follow Jesus, then can I help others follow Him. After all, this is what Jesus said, “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men.”
So let’s look at our lives. Are we transformed from the inside out? If we are to lead others, we must have the authentic walk with Jesus. And let us be intentionally living and leading others with our lives and not just be hiding ourselves from the lost.
May God help you today to lead others with your lives. God bless!
