Lesson from a Purple Flower
I was with my son, Shawn, one day in the park. He saw a flower that he liked, a purple flower. He proceeded to pluck it off its stalk.
I said: “Shawn, you shouldn’t have done that, you killed the flower. You have plucked it off its stalk and it is now dead.”
Shawn said: “But it is still purple, it is not dead.”
Sometimes when we sin against the Lord, we have the same mentality, isn’t it? We look at the externals, they still look the same – I am still going to church and I am still reading the Bible, I am still as business as usual. But we fail to recognise that when we sin against the Lord, something in us dies and our sin eventually catches up on us. The Bible says: “Do not be deceived. Whatever you sow, you will reap. And if we sow to the flesh, we will of the flesh reap corruption.” (Galatians 6:7,8) Things may look rosy, may still look purple on the outside. But something in us dies when we sin against the Lord. So may the branch of your life be reminded today to keep abiding in the vine in the Lord of Jesus Christ so that the life of God may continue to flow through you and bring forth fruit unto His glory. God bless!
